No. 11 C.W. Post Triumphs Twice over Mercy Softball

DOBBS FERRY, NY - The Mercy College softball team was defeated on Senior Day in both ends of a doubleheader on Sunday against No. 11 C.W. Post, dropping the first game 7-0 and the second 5-0. The Mavericks' record is now 9-30 overall and 2-18 in East Coast Conference (ECC) play.

After a scoreless first inning in game one, the Pioneers (41-14, 18-2 ECC) scored four runs in the second frame. Katie Fisher started the scoring with an RBI double down the leftfield line and then Amanda Aiello singled to bring Fisher home. Melissa Medina and Christie Softy followed with RBI singles to cap off the inning.

In the fourth inning the Pioneers added to its lead with three more runs. After the first two batters reached base, Medina singled home a run. Kelsey Cooley and Melissa Hippo hit RBI doubles to put C.W. Post up 7-0.

The Mavericks were unable to bring any runs across against Pioneers' hurler Samantha Yodowitz who earned her 23rd victory of the season.

Senior Jessica Madick (Tarzana, CA) and freshman Chelsea Methot (Bristol, CT) both went 1-for-3.

In game two, the Pioneers again jumped out in front in the second inning. Megan Correia delivered a two out RBI double to bring home Hippo. In the third, C.W. Post added a run on an RBI single by Softy to go up 2-0.

Meanwhile, the Mavericks could do little offensively as they were held to one hit by Christina Berardi.

The Pioneers plated three more runs in the sixth, one on a solo home run from Fisher.

Freshman Kim Curry (Bristol, CT) had the lone hit for Mercy.

The Mavericks celebrated Senior Day by honoring Madick in her last home game in the Blue & White. Mercy will wrap up its season on Tuesday, April 29 in a doubleheader at Briarcliffe College.
