ORANGEBURG, NY - The Mercy College softball team was defeated in both ends of a non-conference doubleheader against Dominican College on Sunday, dropping the first game 9-1 (five innings) and the second 6-0. The Mavericks' record falls to 6-19 overall and remains 2-8 in East Coast Conference (ECC) play.

After a scoreless first inning in game one, the Chargers (16-14) got on the board in the second with a four-run frame. The big hit of the inning was a pinch hit three RBI double by Kristi Dillon. Dominican added one more in the inning on an RBI single to go up 4-0.

The Mavericks scored in the top of the third when freshman Kim Curry (Bristol, CT) lined a base hit to right field to bring home freshman Ali Truss (Southington, CT).

The Chargers got the run back in the bottom of the inning on a bases loaded walk, and then added to its lead in the fourth with three more runs. Left fielder Sarah Beck knocked in two runs with a double to right field to go up 7-1.

Curry went 1-for-3 with an RBI while junior Jessica Davidson (Valhalla, NY) and freshman Chelsea Methot (Bristol, CT) both went 1-for-2.

In game two, the Chargers offense got an early jolt when shortstop Cara Piasecki led off the game with a solo home run.

With the Mavericks trailing 2-0 through three innings, Dominican looked to stretch its lead in the fourth. The Chargers plated three runs on an RBI single and two RBI doubles to take a 5-0 lead.

Chargers' hurler Laurie Edwards kept the Mavericks' offense in check as she pitched a complete game shutout.

Freshmen Stephanie Owsiany (Edison, NJ) and Alicia Martin (Massapequa, NY) each collected a hit.
