Game 1 Boxscore | Game 2 Boxscore
LAKEWOOD, NJ
- The Mercy College softball team dropped both
ends of a doubleheader on Wednesday to Georgian Court University by
a score of 6-2 and 4-2. The Mavericks' record falls to 0-3 on the
season.
In game one of the twin-bill the Mavericks jumped out to a 2-0 lead
in the top of the second when freshman Chelsea
Methot (Bristol,
CT) drilled a two-run home run to right centerfield off
starter Samantha Sasko.
Mavericks' starting pitcher Stephanie Pereyo
(Southington,
CT) allowed only one unearned run
through the first four innings. Leading 2-1 in the fifth inning,
the Lions took the lead on a two-run home run to right centerfield
by Danielle Brossoie.
In the bottom of the sixth the Lions tacked on three insurance
runs, courtesy of three Mavericks errors and three hits in the
inning.
Senior Jessica Madick
(Tarzana,
CA) was 2-for-3 with a run
scored. Methot was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and a run scored.
In game two the Lions scored all the runs they would need in the
first inning. Georgian Court scored four runs (three earned) on
four hits and one error in the inning off Madick.
The Mavericks were shut out for the first five innings, but broke
through in the sixth with one out and the bases loaded on an
Alicia Martin
(Massapequa,
NY) sacrifice fly to score
Methot. Freshman Ali Truss
(Southington,
CT) also scored on the play on an
error by the Lions shortstop to cut the lead to 4-2.
Chelsea Long stymied the Mavericks offensively and picked up the
save by getting the last two outs in the sixth and pitching a
scoreless seventh.
Madick gave up four runs (three earned) on seven hits over six
innings with five strikeouts. The Lions starter, Diana Sansevera,
picked up the victory by pitching 5 1/3 innings and allowing two
runs (one earned) on three hits and four walks.
The Mavericks will be in action when they travel to Cocoa Beach,
Florida to play a doubleheader against Slippery Rock on Friday.
