Tanya Springer Signs NLI to Attend Mercy College and Play Softball

DOBBS FERRY, NY -  Mercy College head softball coach Jacqui Huffman announced on Monday that Tanya Springer (Green Island, NY/Heatly HS) has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Mercy and play softball with the Flyers, beginning in the Fall of 2007.

Springer, a 5-foot-9 left-handed pitcher, has posted a 1.71 earned run average during her scholastic career with 140 strikeouts in 98 innings pitched for Heatly High School outside of Albany, NY. She also batted .319 with 22 runs batted in and a .420 on base percentage from the left side of the plate for the Hornets.

During her summer seasons, Springer has crafted several no-hitters, and will continue pitching with the Hudson River Panthers 18-U Fast Pitch travel team.

Springer has also played as an outside hitter with the volleyball team for two years and the junior varsity soccer team for two years as a sweeper. She is an honor roll student, while also serving as president of the Varsity Club and is a member of the Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) Club.

"Tanya was our top recruit and we're very excited that she has chosen to join us at Mercy," said Huffman. "She's a dominating left-hander with the ability to throw every one of her pitches consistently. She will be a big asset as we continue to take steps in building our program."
