Mercy College Softball Falls at No. 9 C.W. Post

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. - The Mercy College softball team was defeated at No. 9 C.W. Post on Friday, April 20, falling 8-0 in both games of the doubleheader. The Flyers are 0-12 overall and in East Coast Conference (ECC) play, while the Pioneers improved to 29-11 overall and 9-1 in the conference.
Junior centerfielder Jamie DeJesus (Sleepy Hollow, NY) connected for two hits in the doubleheader. Four other Flyers each recorded one hit; Jessica Fabian (Whitehall, PA), Samantha LaBella (Mamaroneck, NY), Jessica Madick (Tarzana, CA), and Tannyka Bent (Queens, NY). Madick recorded six strikeouts in both contests for Mercy.
In game one of the doubleheader, C.W. Post recorded three runs in the first inning and one in the third. The Pioneers tacked on two runs each in the fourth and fifth innings to take an 8-0 lead. Madick struck out four batters, while her counterpart Samantha Yodiowitz had eight.
C.W. Post recorded five runs in the first inning and added three more in the following inning, for an 8-0 lead in the second contest. Neither team plated a run after the second inning. LaBella and Madick combined for two earned runs each, while Madick recorded two strikeouts. C.W. Post pitchers Amanda Aiello and Shannon Rideout combined for six strikeouts, one walk, and allowed two hits. Melissa Medina went 3-for-3 for the Pioneers, while Jill Fisher was 1-for-3 including a home run.
The Flyers will be back in action on Sunday, April 22, when they travel to non-conference opponent Georgian Court. The first pitch is slated for 12:00 p.m.
