Mercy Men's Tennis Edged 5-4 in ECC Semi-finals by Queens

FLUSHING, NY - The Mercy College men's tennis team was defeated 5-4 in the East Coast Conference (ECC) semi-finals by Queens College on Tuesday.

In No.1 singles senior Zeki Tukel (Istanbul, Turkey) was defeated by Fabio Minami in two close sets (6-4, 6-4). The Mavericks came right back in No.2 singles behind freshman Mehdi Rhazali (Rabat, Morocco) when he beat Marcelo Kim 6-2, 6-0.

Junior Timon Prosper (Mardigras, St. Georges) defeated David Burstein in No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-4. Taylor Crabill beat junior Yusufcan Koksal (Ankara, Turkey) 6-4, 6-3 and Robby Scheuing defeated sophomore Christian Cheuque (Vina del Mar, Chile). The final singles match was won by default by Queens.

At No. 1 doubles, Tukel and Rhazali defeated Burstein and Minami by a score of 8-2. Prosper and Koksal were also victorious (8-4) by beating Kim and Crabill. The final match was won by default by Queens.

Mercy wraps up its season at 4-7 overall and 3-2 within the conference.
