No. 45 Mercy College Men's Tennis Takes Millersville 6-3

MILLERSVILLE, PA - Mercy College posted a 6-3 victory over host Millersville in a non-conference men's tennis match on Wednesday. The Mavericks, tied for No. 45 in the nation, improved to 4-5 on the year. The Marauders dropped to 1-7 overall.

Playing short-handed one man, Mercy took five of six singles matches, with the lone defeat coming by default in the No. 6 spot. Senior Zeki Tukel (Istanbul, Turkey) defeated Chris Matisse at No. 1, 6-4, 6-2, and freshman Mehdi Rhazali (Rabat, Morocco) downed Drew Slocum 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2. Junior Timon Prosper (Mardigras, St. Georges) cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory versus Marty Makowski at No. 3.  Junior Yusufcan Koksal (Ankara, Turkey) added a 6-3, 6-1 win over Mark Treires at No. 4, and sophomore Christian Cheque (Vina del Mar, Chile) battled for a 1-6, 7-5, 6-0 triumph against Dusty Speicher at No. 5.

In doubles play, Rhazali and Koksal teamed up at No. 2 for an 8-4 win over Treires and Speicher.  Prosper and Tukel fell 8-6 at No. 1 to Matisse and Slocum.  Millersville collected a point at No. 3 by default.

The Mavericks will look to even their record up on Sunday, April 20, when they travel to Bryant which shares the No. 45 ranking.
