Mercy College Men's Tennis Takes Adelphi 7-2

W. HEMPSTEAD, NY - The Mercy College men's tennis team, currently ranked No. 45 in the nation and No. 4 in the east region, defeated host Adelphi University by a score of 7-2 on Saturday. Mercy improved to 3-4 overall and 3-1 in East Coast Conference (ECC) play, while the Panthers fell to 5-6 overall and 0-3 in the league

The Mavericks took two of three doubles matches with Yusufcan Koksal (Ankara, Turkey) and Mehdi Rhazali (Barat, Morocco) defeating Nicolas Sanchez-Sousa and Sebastian Nieves 8-3 at No. 2 and the duo of Timon Prosper (Mardigras, St. Georges) and Christian Cheque (Vina del Mar, Chile) topping Anton Voynov and Pierre Streat 8-6 at No. 3. Zeki Tukel (Istanbul, Turkey) and Carl Johnson (St. John, Antigua) fell 8-5 to Tomasz Walczak and Alex Molotsky at the top spot, 8-5.

Mercy then closed out the victory by winning five of the six singles matches. Tukel dropped the first set to Walczak at No. 1, 4-6, but bounced back with a pair of 6-3 wins to earn a point. Rhazali's match with Voynov at No. 2 also went three sets with Rhazali the victor, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3. Johnson downed Nieves 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 and Prosper defeated Streat 6-0, 1-0 (ret.) at No. 5.  Cheque fell at No. 6 in a tight match to Joseph Carbone, 6-2, 3-6, 3-6.

The Mavericks are back in action on Saturday, April 12 at Queens College in another ECC match.
