Mercy College Men's Tennis Defeats Dowling 5-0
DOBBS FERRY, NY - The Mercy College men's tennis team defeated Dowling College on Saturday 5-0. The Mavericks' record improves to 2-3 overall and 2-0 in East Coast Conference (ECC) play.
In No. 1 doubles junior Carl Johnson (St. John, Antigua) and senior Zeki Tukel (Istanbul, Turkey) teamed up against Dowling's Jose Gomez and Petr Grishchenko. The Mercy duo came up big and won the match 8-6. Junior Yusufcan Koksal (Ankara, Turkey) and freshman Mehdi Rhazali (Rabat, Morocco) defeated Salulo Gonzales and Pedro Munoz 8-3 in No. 2 doubles. In the final pairing of the day, junior Timon Prosper (Mardigras, St. Georges) and sophomore Christian Cheuque (Vina del Mar, Chile) shutout Kevin Lotito and Wolfthal 8-0.
In singles, Cheuque beat Wolfthal by a score 6-1, 6-2. In No. 4 singles, Prosper defeated Lotito 6-0, 6-0.
The Mavericks will be back in action on Wednesday, April 2 at twelfth-ranked Concordia at 2:30 p.m.
