Mavericks Topped by NCAA Division II Defending Champion Lynn University
BOCA RATON, FL - The Mercy College men's tennis
team was defeated by defending NCAA Division II Champion Lynn
University by a score of 8-0. The Mavericks, who are ranked No. 29
in the nation, are now 1-3 this season, while Lynn (No. 3 in the
nation) improved its' record to 10-4.
The match of the day came in doubles when senior Zeki Tukel
(Istanbul, Turkey) and junior Carl Johnson (St.
John, Antigua) faced off against Julien Carsuzaa and Diego
Rodriguez. The Mavericks' duo gave Lynn's No. 1 pair a tough match
but eventually fell 9-7.
In No. 1 singles Tukel was defeated by the tenth-ranked player in
the nation, Lorenzo Cava 6-0, 6-0. Carsuzaa, who is ranked No. 9 in
the nation, beat freshman Mehdi Rhazali (Rabat,
Morocco) in the No. 2 match 6-2, 6-1. Junior Timon
Prosper (Mardigras, St.Georges) dropped his match to the
forty-fourth ranked player in the nation, Tomas Racak 6-0, 6-2.
The Mavericks will now return home from its southern road trip to
play Dowling College on Saturday, March 29 at 1 p.m.
