Mercy's Vyacheslav Glebov Ranked No. 30 in Men's Tennis ITA National Rankings
Flyers Ranked No. 4 in the Region
DOBBS FERRY, NY - The Mercy College men's tennis team is ranked No. 4 in the Fall ITA Eastern Regional poll, while Vyacheslav Glebov (Krasnoyarsk, Russia) has cracked the national rankings in singles at No. 30, and is ranked No. 3 in the region. Alicen Seren (Istanbul, Turkey) is ranked No. 8 in the region in singles, and is also ranked No. 8 in doubles with Yusufcan Koksal (Ankara, Turkey). Both the team and Glebov's ranking are the highest ever under sixth year head coach Barbaros Ozdogan.
"Vyacheslav's national ranking is well-deserved and a great milestone for our program," said Ozdogan. "This is a good reflection of our success and is another step forward toward our goal of being nationally ranked as a team."
The team enjoyed a successful fall season, capturing four singles titles at the Scott Satran Tournament in September, and putting together a strong performance at the ITA Regionals.
Glebov, only a sophomore, won the No. 1 flight singles title at the Scott Satran Tournament, knocking off three straight nationally ranked players. He followed up by advancing to the semifinals of the "A" flight at the ITA Regionals.
"Vyacheslav is a great student-athlete and by working hard he has the potential to move up in the rankings," said Ozdogan. "This spring we will play five nationally ranked teams and that will give him the opportunity to continue to rise and give other team members an opportunity to crack the national rankings as well."
Seren, a junior, also captured a title at the Scott Satran Tournament, winning the No. 2 flight, which included a victory over his opponent from Monmouth, a Division I program. He then advanced to the quarterfinals of the "A" flight at the ITA Regionals.
Seren and Koksal, a sophomore, paired up in "A" doubles action at the ITA Regionals where they advanced to the quarterfinals with an 8-6 victory over Tyler Weisel and Paul Caceres of University of Sciences Philadelphia.
