Mercy's Vyacheslav Glebov Advances to ITA
Regional Semifinals
BLOOMSBURG, PA - The Mercy College men's tennis team was in action at the ITA Regionals over the weekend, hosted by Bloomsburg University (PA). Sophomore Vyacheslav Glebov (Krasnoyarsk, Russia) highlighted the tournament for the Flyers, advancing to the semifinals of the "A" Singles flight.
Glebov, the number three seed, defeated Richter of University of Sciences Philadelphia in his first match of the tournament, 6-1, 6-2. He then moved on to knock off Lukas Labitsch of Kutztown by scores of 7-6 (3), 6-2. In the quarterfinals, Glebov rolled past Dan Gal of Bloomsburg, 6-4, 6-2, before getting edged by Wojciech Stuchlick of Queens in a three-set super-tiebreaker, 1-6, 6-4, 10-1.
Newcomer Alican Seren (Istanbul, Turkey) also performed well, advancing to the quarterfinals of the "A" Singles flight. In his first match, Seren defeated Billy Almeyda of Queens College, 6-0, 6-1, and then topped Jared Dorfman from Assumption, 7-5, 6-2. Seren would be eliminated in three sets by Santiago Baquerzio of Kutztown, 4-6, 6-1, def.
In other "A" singles action, Yusufcan Koksal (Ankara, Turkey) dropped a hard-fought three-set tie-breaker to Collin Vero-Cassavante of Assumption, 6-3, 5-7 (9). In the "B" Singles flight, Carl Johnson (Antigua) advanced to the quarterfinals. He first downed Ricardo Martins of University of Sciences Philadelphia, 8-5, and Whitely from Bloomsburg, 8-0, before falling to Rvenz of Concordia, 9-7. Timon Prosper (Grenada) defeated Midway from Philadelphia University, 6-0, 6-1, before being defeated by Sabyasachi Bose of Concordia, 9-8 (4).
In "A" doubles action, Seren and Koksal teamed up for an 8-6 victory over Tyler Weisel and Paul Caceres of University of Sciences Philadelphia. They fell in the quarterfinals to Baquerzio and Labitsch of Kutztown, 9-7. Glebov and Prosper dropped their match to Greg Maloomiam and Greg Avola of Bentley, 8-5.
