Mercy's Alican Seren Earns Second ECC Player of the Week Honor
DOBBS FERRY, NY - Mercy College junior Alican Seren (Istanbul, Turkey) has been selected as the East Coast Conference (ECC) Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. The honor is his second of the year.
Seren was perfect last week, helping 37th-ranked Mercy to three wins, stretching its win streak to four straight. He went 3-0 in singles play, losing only four games, and 2-0 in doubles action. At Dowling he cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles over Jose Gomez, and posted an 8-3 win with Zeki Tukel at No. 3 doubles. Seren then won 6-2, 6-0, at No. 3 singles versus Jimmy Delevante of Queens on Friday (and won the doubles point by default). He closed out the week with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles over Jeff Boyce of St. Thomas Aquinas, and paired with Vyacheslav Glebov at No. 2 doubles for an 8-3 victory. Seren is now 12-2 in singles matches on the year and 9-1 in doubles.
Mercy will be the second seed at this week's ECC Championships and will play host to third-seeded Dowling in the semifinals on Thursday, April 19.
