No. 37 Mercy College Men's Tennis Tops St. Thomas Aquinas 6-3, for Fourth Straight Victory
SPARKILL, NY - The Mercy College men's tennis team, ranked No. 37 in the nation, defeated host St. Thomas Aquinas College by a score of 6-3, for its fourth consecutive victory on Saturday, April 14. The Flyers improved to 8-2 overall and 4-1 in East Coast Conference (ECC) play. The Spartans dropped to 0-9 overall and 0-5 in the league.
Mercy notched a pair of points in doubles play. Timon Prosper (Mardigras, St. Georges) and Yusufcan Koksal (Ankara, Turkey) paired up for an 8-2 win at No. 1, while Vyacheslav Glebov (Krasnoyarsk, Russia) and Alican Seren (Istanbul, Turkey) teamed up for an 8-3 victory at No. 2.
The Flyers sealed the decision by earning straight set wins at the top four singles spots. Koksal cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Tony Tello at No.1, and Seren posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 2 over Jeff Boyce. Glebov blanked Christian Varas at No. 3, and Prosper closed it out with a 6-0, 6-0 win versus Jonathan Pomarico at No. 4 singles.
Mercy will be the No. 2 seed at next week's ECC Championships and will host No. 3 seed Dowling on Thursday, April 19.
