No. 37 Mercy College Men's Tennis Defeats Dowling, 6-3
STONY BROOK, NY - The Mercy College men's tennis team, ranked No. 37 in the nation, defeated host Dowling College by a score of 6-3, in East Coast Conference (ECC) action on Tuesday, April 10. The Flyers are now 6-2 overall, and 2-1 in ECC play. Dowling dropped to 8-3 overall and 2-1 in league action.
The Flyers took three points in doubles play, getting an 8-5 win from the duo of Vyacheslav Glebov (Krasnoyarsk, Russia) and Carlos Ferreira (Sao Paolo, Brazil) at No. 1. Timon Prosper (Mardigras, St. Georges) and Yusufcan Koksal (Ankara, Turkey) paired for an 8-6 victory at No. 2, while Alican Seren (Istanbul, Turkey) and Zeki Tukel (Turkey) teamed up for an 8-3 win at No. 3.
Mercy got three more points in singles play to seal the victory. Dowling took matches at No. 1 and No. 2, but Seren was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Jose Gomez at No.3, and Glebov battled for a 6-4, 7-5 (10-6) triumph at No. 4, versus Petr Grishenko. Prosper notched another point at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-3, against Pedro Munoz.
The Flyers will return to action on Thursday, April 12, serving as host to Queens College in another key ECC tilt that will be played at the USTA National Tennis Center beginning at 3:00 p.m.
