Mercy College Men's Tennis Gears Up to Host Queens College at the USTA National Tennis Center on April 12

DOBBS FERRY, NY - The Mercy College men's tennis team will play host to Queens College on Thursday, April 12, at the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. This key East Coast Conference (ECC) match will begin at 3:00 p.m. and admission is free for all fans. Spectators are invited to view warm ups prior to the match, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
Mercy is off to a 5-2 start to the spring season, and is currently ranked No. 37 in the latest FILA Intercollegiate Tennis Association national rankings for NCAA Division II and No. 3 in the East region. The Flyers are 1-1 in ECC play, coming off a 9-0 shutout of Adelphi last week.
Mercy also has several individuals among the region's best. Sophomore Vyacheslav Glebov (Krasnoyarsk, Russia) is ranked No. 5 in the region for singles play, while junior Alican Seren (Istanbul, Turkey) comes in at No. 9, and sophomore Yusufcan Koksal (Ankara, Turkey) is tied for No. 15. The doubles pair of Glebov and Koksal is ranked No. 7 in the region.
Queens is currently ranked No. 5 in the East region and is currently 8-4 overall and 1-1 in ECC play. Queens fell to Dowling by a score of 5-4 last week, and will take on St. Thomas Aquinas College on Tuesday, April 10, before facing Mercy.
Home of the U.S. Open and Arthur Ashe Stadium, the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center is located across from Shea Stadium in Flushing, NY. It is the largest public tennis facility in the world and also serves as host to other prestigious events such as the Women's College Tennis Invitational, the Jana Hunsaker Memorial Eastern Wheelchair Championships, the USTA National Open Indoor Championships, the "Turn Back The Clock" (wood racquets only) tournament and other USTA Eastern sectional tournaments for juniors, adults and seniors.
Prior to their match versus Queens, the Flyers will travel to take on another ECC foe, Dowling, on Tuesday, April 10. That contest will be played at Stony Brook, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
