No. 40 Mercy College Men's Tennis Defeated by No. 18 Concordia, 6-3
BRONXVILLE, NY - The Mercy College men's tennis team, ranked No. 40 in the nation, fell by a score of 6-3 at No. 18 Concordia on Saturday, March 30. The Flyers are now 4-2 overall and 0-1 in East Coast Conference (ECC) play, while the Clippers improved to 8-2 overall and 2-0 in league action.
The duo of Alican Seren (Istanbul, Turkey) and Zeki Tukel (Istanbul, Turkey) won an 8-4 decision over John Cassas and Niklas Boerger at No. 3 doubles, but Concordia took the other two pairings.
Tukel was also a winner at No. 4 singles for the Flyers, battling for a 7-5, 7-5 decision over Kirill Azovtsev. Mercy's third point came from Timon Prosper (Mardigras, St. George's) at No. 6, over Boerger, 6-4, 6-4. Vyacheslav Glebov (Krasnoyarsk, Russia), ranked No. 33 in the nation, fell in a tough three-set tilt 6-2, 4-6, 6-2, to Josep Molet. Seren also took Rodrigo Teixeira to three sets, before getting edged 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
Mercy will return to action on Wednesday, April 4, with another ECC match at Adelphi, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
