No. 40 Mercy Men's Tennis Rolls to Victories Over No. 38 Limestone and Chowan at North South Duals

          WILSON, NC - The Mercy College men's tennis team, ranked No. 40 in the nation, defeated No. 38 Limestone and Chowan on day two of the North South Duals, hosted by Barton College. The Flyers first knocked off Limestone 5-3, before blanking Chowan 5-0.  Mercy improved its record to 4-0 in the process.

          The opener was an epic match. Mercy got an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles from Vyacheslav Glebov (Krasnoyarsk, Russia) and Yusufcan Koksal (Ankara, Turkey), but Limestone took the other two doubles contests, both by scores of 8-6. The Flyers then got singles victories from Glebov, Zeki Tukel (Istanbul, Turkey), Alicen Seren (Istanbul, Turkey), and the match-winner from Timon Prosper (Grenada).

          Mercy took all three doubles tilts versus Chowan to open up a 3-0 lead in the second match.  Glebov and Koksal paired for an 8-5 win at No. 1, followed by an 8-3 decision from Seren and Tukel, and an 8-1 victory by the duo of Prosper and Carlos Ferreira (Sao Paulo, Brazil).  Ferreira and Tukel nailed down the shutout with straight set wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively.

          "These were two more big wins," said head coach Barbaros Ozdogan. "Prosper's performance was phenomenal. The whole team performed well and a lot of credit goes to Prosper for sealing victories two days in a row."

The Flyers will close out the tournament and look to stay undefeated on Sunday, March 25, when they take on host Barton College.
