Rankings at
No. 40, Moves Up to No. 2 in East Region
DOBBS FERRY, NY - The Mercy College men's tennis team is No. 40 in the latest FILA/Intercollegiate Tennis Association National rankings, and No. 2 in the East Region.
The Flyers captured two titles at the East Coast Conference (ECC) Flight Tournament on February 24 and February 25. Sophomore Vyacheslav Glebov (Krasnoyarsk, Russia), in the No. 3 spot for the Flyers, won in straight sets in his championship match, while sophomore Yusufcan Koksal (Ankara, Turkey) earned Mercy's second title in three sets.
"Becoming nationally ranked was one of our goals for the 2007 spring season," said head coach Barbaros Ozdogan. "We take pride that Mercy is nationally ranked and are looking to represent the school and gain respect throughout the season. We still have a lot to accomplish this season and we are working hard to achieve the rest of our goals."
Mercy will return to action on March 23-25, at North South Duals hosted by Barton College. The Flyers will compete against Methodist, Mount Olive, Limestone, Chowan and Barton in Wilson, NC.
"The team is looking forward to the North South Duals. It will be a challenge for the team and will hopefully take them to the next level," said Ozdogan.
