Mercy Men's Tennis Captures Two Titles
at the ECC Singles and Doubles Tournament
FLUSHING, NY - The Mercy College men's tennis team opened the 2007 spring season by bringing home two singles titles at the ECC Singles and Doubles Tournament on Sunday, February 25.
Sophomore Vyacheslav Glebov (Krasnoyarsk, Russia), in the No. 3 spot for the Flyers, defeated Lucas Moraes of Queens in straight sets (6-1, 6-2) to take the championship. Sophomore Yusufcan Koksal (Ankara, Turkey) earned Mercy's second title by defeating Peter Grischenko of Dowling in three sets.
Freshman Carlos Ferreira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) was defeated by Willem Jansen Van Rensberg of Dowling in two tie-break sets during the championship match, at the No. 4 spot. Timon Prosper (Grenada), No. 6, was defeated by Concordia's John Cassas in a two-set decision in the final round. The No. 3 doubles pair of Tukel and Prosper advanced to the championship round before falling to Nik Boerger and Cassas of Concordia.
"The team is looking forward to the North South Duals in North Carolina. It will be a challenge for the team and will hopefully take them to the next level," said head coach Barbaros Ozdogan.
Mercy will return to action on March 23-25, at North South Duals hosted by Barton College.
