Mercy College Men's Tennis No. 5 in Final

Gartner ranked No.5 in regional singles.
DOBBS FERRY, NY - The Mercy College men's tennis team is No. 5 in the final Fila NCAA Division II East Region rankings. Mercy senior Hans Peter Gartner (Vienna, Austria) is also No. 5 in the regional singles rankings. Gartner and freshman Yusufcan Koksal (Ankara, Turkey) finished the year as the No. 3 ranked doubles pair in the East, while teammates Carl Johnson (Antigua) and Vyacheslav Glebov (Krasnoyarsk, Siberia) are tied for the No. 10 spot.
Mercy made its third straight trip to the NCAA Tournament and finished the year at 10-4 overall. Head Coach Barbaros Ozdogan, the 2006 New York Collegiate Athletic Conference (NYCAC) Coach of the Year, led his squad to a share of the regular season league title.
Gartner was an All-NYCAC First Team selection. Playing at the No. 1 singles spot he posted a 7-5 record that included a victory over nationally ranked Rodrigo Teixeira of Concordia during the regular season. Gartner also teamed up with Koksal for a 6-6 record at No. 1 doubles.
Johnson, a sophomore, and Glebov, a freshman, put together a record of 12-4, playing at both the No. 2 and No. 1 doubles spot throughout the year. Glebov was the 2006 NYCAC Rookie of the Year, while he and Johnson both earned spots on the All-NYCAC Second Team.
