Mercy's Vyacheslav Glebov Named NYCAC Men's

Barbaros Ozdogan Selected as NYCAC Coach of the
Year 
DOBBS FERRY, NY - Mercy College freshman Vyacheslav Glebov (Krasnoyarsk, Siberia) has been selected as the New York Collegiate Athletic Conference (NYCAC) Men's Tennis Rookie of the Year by the league's coaches, it was announced prior to Thursday's semifinals of the NYCAC Team Championships. Mercy Head Coach Barbaros Ozdogan was also named Coach of the Year by his peers. Senior Hans Peter Gartner (Vienna, Austria) was named All-NYCAC First Team, while Glebov and sophomore Carl Johnson (Antigua) earned spots on the All-NYCAC Second Team.
Glebov put together an impressive rookie campaign, posting a 9-5 record in singles play, appearing primarily at No. 2, where he went 6-4. He also made four starts at No. 1, going 3-1. Glebov won five straight singles matches towards the end of the regular season to earn two consecutive NYCAC Rookie of the Week honors. He also teamed with Johnson to go 12-2 in doubles play, putting together an 11-match win streak.
In his fifth year at the helm, Ozdogan led the Flyers to a share of the NYCAC Regular Season title, going 10-2 overall and 5-1 in league play. Mercy is ranked No. 1 in the East region by the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Committee and No. 5 in the Fila Northeast regional rankings. Ozdogan led the Flyers to a pair of five-match win streaks, which included a 5-4 victory over Concordia, ranked No. 35 in the nation at the time.
Gartner went 7-3 in singles play for the Flyers, all at the No. 1 slot. His biggest win of the year came against Concordia's Rodrigo Teixeira, ranked No. 47 in the nation, a 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 decision that helped him land NYCAC co-Player of the Week honors.
Johnson was rewarded after going 9-5 in singles action, playing at the No. 3 and No. 2 spots. Johnson was also recognized for his 12-2 doubles mark and 11-match win streak with Glebov.
