Mercy's Vyacheslav Glebov Named NYCAC Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week

DOBBS FERRY, NY - Mercy College freshman Vyacheslav Glebov (Krasnoyarsk, Siberia) has been named New York Collegiate Athletic Conference (NYCAC) men's tennis Rookie of the Week for matches played between Monday, April 3, and Sunday, April 9. It is the third straight NYCAC Rookie of the Week honor for the Mercy men's tennis team following the selections of Yusufcan Koksal (Ankara, Turkey) and Timon Prosper (Grenada) the two previous weeks.

Glebov was perfect last week, going 2-0 in both singles and doubles play.  On Friday he played at the No. 1 spot, defeating Greg Bennett of Millersville, 6-3, 6-3, before topping Anders Novesky of Philadelphia University, 6-4, 7-6, at No. 2, on Sunday.

He also won at both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, pairing with Carl Johnson for the victories. Glebov and Johnson have now won nine straight doubles matches.

Mercy is currently 8-1 overall, 4-0 in NYCAC play, and ranked No. 5 in the latest Fila Northeast Regional poll. The Flyers have already clinched a berth in the NYCAC Tournament, which will be held April 20-21. Mercy will take to the courts again on Wednesday, April 12, with a match at Caldwell College beginning at 2:30 p.m.
