Mercy Men's Tennis Wins Third Straight, 8-1, Over Philadelphia University
PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Mercy College men's tennis team, currently ranked No. 5 in the Fila Northeast regional rankings, rolled to an 8-1 victory over host Philadelphia University on Sunday, April 9. The Flyers improved their record to 8-1 overall and 4-0 in NYCAC action, with their third straight win, while Philadelphia University dropped to 6-8 overall and 0-3 in league play.
Mercy got two points in doubles play, winning at No. 2 and No. 3. Carl Johnson and Vyacheslav Glebov paired up for an 8-4 win over Viet Trinh and Alex Richter, while Dennis James and Timon Prosper took an 8-2 decision versus Derek DelOuado and Skylar Tibbits.
The Flyers then swept all six singles matches in straight sets. Hans Peter Gartner was a 6-2, 6-2, winner at No. 1. Glebov battled to a 6-4, 7-6, decision at No. 2, followed by Johnson's 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3. Yusufcan Koksal took No. 4 singles with a 6-3, 6-3, victory. Prosper added a 7-5, 6-1, win at No. 5, and James posted a 6-1, 6-0, triumph at No. 6.
Mercy returns to action on Wednesday, April 12, with a match at Caldwell College beginning at 2:30 p.m.
