Mercy Tennis Player Timon Prosper Named NYCAC Rookie of the Week

DOBBS FERRY, NY - Mercy College freshman Timon Prosper (Genada) has been named New York Collegiate Athletic Conference (NYCAC) men's tennis Rookie of the Week for matches played between Monday, March 27, and Sunday, April 2. Prosper is Mercy's second straight NYCAC Rookie of the Week following Yusufcan Koskal's (Ankara, Turkey) selection last week.

Prosper had an outstanding week, going 4-1 in singles play, splitting time between No. 4 and No. 5. He first won at No. 5 vs. Bentley, 6-1, 6-0, before moving up to No. 4 for another 6-1, 6-2 win vs. Bryant. He then knocked off Brandin O'Connell of Adelphi at No. 5 by scores of 6-3, 6-2 in Mercy's 5-4 triumph. In a 9-0 shutout of STAC, he cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory.

Prosper was also a perfect 5-0 in doubles action. He played with three different teammates at No. 3 and No. 2 doubles, winning all five matches, including an 8-4 win over Kutztown, the top ranked team in the region.

Mercy is currently 6-1 overall, 3-0 in NYCAC play, and ranked No. 7 in the latest Fila Northeast Regional poll. The Flyers will take to the courts again on Wednesday, April 5, with another key NYCAC match at Queens College.
