Mercy Men's Tennis Blanks STAC 9-0
SPARKILL, NY - The Mercy College men's tennis team, ranked No. 7 in the latest FILA Northeast regional rankings, posted a 9-0 shutout of host St. Thomas Aquinas College on Saturday, April 1. The Flyers improved to 6-1 overall and remain undefeated against New York Collegiate Athletic Conference (NYCAC) opponents at 3-0.
The Flyers cruised through doubles play, dropping only one game in three matches. Hans Peter Gartner and Yusufcan Koksal prevailed 8-1, at No. 1, while the duos of Vyacheslav Glebov and Carl Johnson and Dennis James and Timon Prosper posted 8-0 victories at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.
Gartner Knocked off Jeff Boyce 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1 singles before Glebov downed Christian Varas 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2. Johnson and Koksal each posted 6-1, 6-1, wins at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, followed by 6-0, 6-0 victories by Prosper and James at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.
Mercy takes to the courts again on Wednesday, April 5, with another NYCAC match at Queens College, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
