Mercy Men's Tennis Falls to Kutztown 7-2
KUTZTOWN, PA - The Mercy College men's tennis team suffered its first loss of the 2006 season on Friday, March 31, falling at Kutztown by a score of 7-2. The Flyers, currently ranked No. 7 in the region, are now 5-1 on the year. Kutztown, the No. 2 team in the region and No. 39 in the nation, also moves to 5-1.
Mercy jumped out to a 2-1 lead during doubles play. Carl Johnson and Vyacheslav Glebov gave Mercy its first point with an 8-6 triumph at No. 2. Yusufcan Koksal and Timon Prosper notched the other point with an 8-4 victory at No. 3.
Kutztown overcame the early deficit by sweeping all six singles matches. Glebov gave it a run at the No. 1 spot in a tight match before falling to Santiago Baquerizo 7-5, 6-3. The biggest battle of the day came at No. 5, where Pavol Vasko dropped the opening set to Somdeep Appineni 3-6 and came back to take the second set 6-3, before falling 9-11 in the tiebreaker.
Mercy returns to action on Saturday, April 1, at St. Thomas Aquinas College
