Mercy's Yusufcan Koksal Named NYCAC Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week
DOBBS FERRY, NY - Mercy College freshman Yusufcan Koksal (Ankara, Turkey) has been named New York Collegiate Athletic Conference (NYCAC) men's tennis Rookie of the Week for matches played between Monday, March 20, and Sunday, March 26.
Koksal made the most of his only singles match of the week as he avenged a loss to Dowling's Petr Grishchenko at the NYCAC flight championships with a 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 win at No. 4, on Wednesday. The victory helped Mercy, ranked No. 7 in the region, to a 6-3 win over Dowling, the No. 5 ranked team in the region.
Koksal has since won two more singles matches, including a victory at No. 3 on Monday against Bryant, improving his record this spring to a perfect 4-0.
Mercy returns to the courts again on Wednesday, March 29, at home versus Adelphi. The match will be held at Westchester Community College's Valhalla campus, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
