Mercy College Men's Tennis Defeats Dowling, 6-3

VALHALLA, NY - The Mercy College men's tennis team, currently ranked No. 7 in the Fila Northeast regional rankings, knocked off visiting Dowling College, the No. 5 team in the Northeast, by a score of 6-3 on Wednesday, March 22.  The win was the second straight to open the spring slate for Mercy as the Flyers improved to 2-0.

Mercy senior team captain Hans Peter Gartner notched a point at No. 1 singles, defeating Gustavo Sanchez in a tight 7-5, 6-4 decision.  Sanchez was the No. 1 ranked singles player in the Northeast region and No. 24 in the nation. Freshman Yusufcan Koksal tallied another point at No. 4 singles with a hard fought 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 decision over Petr Grishchenko and freshman Timon Prosper won in the No. 5 spot, 6-1, 6-0, over Clayton Bodkin. In doubles action, sophomore Carl Johnson and freshman Vyacheslav Glebov battled for a 9-7 edge at the No. 2 spot.

Mercy returns to action on Monday, March 27, when the squad travels to take on Bentley and Bryant beginning at 10:00 a.m.
