    Men's Soccer Alumni Day a Success DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (April 24, 2012) – Mercy College hosted the Men’s Soccer Alumni Day at Dobbs Ferry High School on Saturday, April 21. More than 30 alumni took part in the event, with players representing each of the past three decades returning to take on the current squad in an exhibition game that drew fans from their own youth teams, families and friends.

    Late Goal Gives Dowling Edge Over Men’s Soccer in Season Finale OAKDALE, N.Y. (Oct. 29, 2011) – On Saturday afternoon the Mercy College men’s soccer team traveled to Dowling College on Long Island for the final match of the season. The Mavericks controlled the game in the first half but the Golden Lions battled back as the match wore on, finally getting the game-winner in the 88th minute to end their season with a 6-7-3 overall record (1-4-2 in the ECC) and leave the Mavericks with a 6-10-1 overall mark (1-6 in the ECC).

    Men’s Soccer Dominates in 3-0 Win Over Philadelphia DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Oct. 26, 2011) – On Wednesday afternoon the Mercy College men’s soccer team hosted Philadelphia University looking to put an end to an eight-game losing streak full of hard-luck one-goal losses. Playing some of their best soccer all season, the Mavericks came away with a dominant 3-0 victory, improving their record to 6-9-1 and dropping Philadelphia to 5-11.

    Men’s Soccer Shut Out by Molloy, 3-0 DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. (Oct. 23, 2011) – On Sunday afternoon the Mercy College men’s soccer team celebrated its Senior Day, honoring seven graduating seniors before their match with the Lions. The Mavericks were unlucky not to send them off in style, cracking 18 shots to the Lions’ 14 and forcing seven corners to no avail as they fell 3-0. Mercy was more than unlucky not to find the net thanks in part to several brilliant saves by redshirt freshman goalkeeper Justin Corke (Valley Stream, N.Y.), who made six in total.

(Oct. 18, 2011) – On Tuesday afternoon the Mercy College men’s soccer team hosted Lock Haven looking to pick up a confidence boost after another heartbreaking loss to C.W. Post over the weekend. After falling behind early, the Mavericks pulled back into the match and looked ready to come away with the victory, but the Bald Eagles found a breakaway goal in the first overtime period to leave with the victory.

(Oct. 15, 2011) – On Saturday afternoon the Mercy College men’s soccer team took the field against undefeated No. 3 C.W. Post looking for an upset win to stay in the playoff race. A sixth-minute goal instantly crushed those hopes, however, as it proved to be the difference in the Pioneers’ 1-0 victory.

(Oct. 12, 2011) – On Wednesday afternoon the Mercy College men’s soccer team took to the field against Stonehill College in Easton, Mass. looking to get a confidence boost ahead of this weekend’ game against undefeated No. 3 C.W. Post. The Mavericks looked well on their way to the win early, but a brace from senior forward Michael White (Lisbon, N.H.) lifted the Skyhawks to victory, handing Mercy its fifth straight loss.

Unfortunately for the Mavericks, an early Bears goal proved to be enough to decide the match, and Mercy was sent home with another heartbreaking loss.

After battling back to push the game into overtime, Mercy was sent home on a cheap golden goal following a questionable foul call.

    Men’s Soccer Falls Short in Heartbreaker to St. Thomas Aquinas PURCHASE, N.Y. (Oct. 1, 2011) – On Saturday night, the Mercy College men’s soccer team took on St. Thomas Aquinas at Manhattanville College due to poor field conditions at Dobbs Ferry. The Spartans entered the match ranked No. 4 in the NSCAA East regional rankings and had received votes in the NCAA Division II rankings thanks to an undefeated 5-0-3 overall record (0-0-1 in the ECC) and were fresh off a 7-0 victory over Caldwell College. Known for their shutdown defense (ranked eighth in Division II) and solid offense, St. Thomas Aquinas needed its best at both ends to steal the victory from the Mavericks, who led once in each half but ultimately could not knock off the Spartans.

The recognition caps off an incredible week for the Mavericks, who knocked off Bridgeport (3-2 record), then ranked No. 10 in the region, and posted two more wins to improve their record to 4-1-1 on the season.

(Sept. 7, 2011) – Just before the start of the 2011 season, the Mercy College men’s soccer team joined in a project with Habitat for Humanity. Head Coach Chris Smith’s squad volunteered for the community service event two weeks ago to help in the construction of a house on 5 Orchard Street. They also cleaned up three vacant lots in the area.

    Previewing the 2011 Men's Soccer Campaign; Mavericks Look to Build Upon Strong 2010 Season Head Coach Chris Smith begins his second season at the helm guiding the Mavericks into a pre-season filled with anticipation and excitement. The team is coming off a competitive final record of 6-7-4 in 2010 compared to being 4-26-1 combined in 2008 and 2009. The team hopes to continue to build something special in 2011 with a seasoned returning group and an accomplished incoming recruiting class for a total of 28 student-athletes. The group will be captained again by graduate student Ben Latchford (Birmingham, England) and senior Keith Dillon (Dublin, Ireland), as well as senior Bujar Lajqi (Bronx, N.Y.), who is a captain for the first time. Filling out the rest of the senior class is: Collin Legge (Schodack, N.Y.), Mark Guerrero (East Meadow, N.Y.), Martin Walsh (Dublin, Ireland) and Lamine Seck (Bronx, N.Y.). Expectations are high as the coaching staff put together a group that will be more technical, tactical and fit. After a successful spring campaign and an intensive pre-season with the new players, the 2011 Mavericks will aim to surpass double digit wins, reach the ECC playoffs and have an opportunity to compete for the Conference Championship.
