Franklin Pierce Takes Mercy Men's Soccer

Mike Fernandes

RINDGE, NH -  The Mercy College men's soccer team fell by a score of 6-0 at defending NCAA Division II national champion Franklin Pierce on Saturday evening.  Mercy is now 1-8 overall while the Ravens improved to 7-4-1 on the year.

The Mavericks gave Franklin Pierce all it could handle in the first half, playing them tough and holding the Ravens' offense in check.  Franklin Pierce would break through in the 49th minute on a goal from Kensaku Tsuji with an assist going to Viktor Goncalves.

Just over 13 minutes later, Cole Larned scored on another feed from Goncalves to give the Ravens some breathing room at 2-0.  Tsuji then stretched the margin to 3-0 with an assist from Casey Ftorek in the 68th minute and Ftorek added another in the 70th minute. Goncalves netted a goal of his own in the 72nd minute before connecting with Sean Ahern for the final tally in the 89th minute.

Freshman goalkeeper Martin Walsh (Dublin, Ireland) made seven saves for the Mavericks.

Mercy will be back in action on Tuesday, October 7 at Concordia in an East Coast Conference (ECC) match beginning at 3:00 p.m.
