Mercy College Men's Soccer Edged 3-2 by No. 22 NYIT in Double OT

OLD WESTBURY, NY -  Jemarc Edwards scored in the 106th minute to lift NYIT, ranked No. 22 in the nation, to a 3-2 victory over visiting Mercy College in an East Coast Conference (ECC) men's soccer game on Wednesday.  The Mavericks fell to 6-3-3 overall and 4-2-1 in the ECC, while the Bears improved to 12-2 overall and 5-1 in the ECC.

Mercy jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on Lucan Bowen's (Kingston, Jamaica) first goal of the year on a free kick in the sixth minute.

The Mavericks' advantage lasted until the 26th minute when Frank Spanos connected on a cross into the box from Roi Castro to even the score at 1-1.  Castro then found Richard Ingram with another cross just three seconds before halftime to give NYIT a 2-1 lead.

Mercy gave the contest its second tie at 2-2 in the 52nd minute as Nizar Chahbani (Menzel Bourguiba, Tunisia) picked up a loose ball in the box and found the back of the net. Neither team could notch the go ahead goal in regulation, sending the game into overtime.

NYIT out-shot the Mavericks 3-0 in the first extra frame, but Mercy goalkeeper Carl Spence (St. Catherine, Jamaica) stopped the only shot on goal.  In the second overtime, neither squad got off a shot until Edwards netted the game-winner on a cross from Ingram.

NYIT out-shot Mercy 28-5 for the game.  Spence made seven saves, while Cosimo D'Agostino stopped one shot for the Bears.

Mercy returns to action on Saturday, October 20, at C.W. Post, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
