Mercy College Men's Soccer Ranked No. 5 in NSCAA/adidas Northeast Poll

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. -  The Mercy College men's soccer team makes its first appearance of the year in the NSCAA/adidas Northeast regional rankings, coming in at No. 5 this week.  The regional committees announced the rankings on Tuesday.

The Mavericks are unbeaten in their last four (3-0-1) to improve to 6-2-3 overall and 4-1-1 in East Coast Conference (ECC) play, good for second place.  On Wednesday they will play at NYIT, currently ranked No. 22 in the nation and No. 3 in the Northeast, and then play at C.W. Post on Saturday.

Mercy has assembled a potent offense that has registered 24 goals in only 11 games.   Seniors Michael Frimpong-Manso (Accra, Ghana) and Nizar Chahbani (Menzel Bourguiba, Tunisia) have combined for 14 of those goals, including four game-winners, and eight assists.  Frimpong-Manso leads or is tied for the lead in the ECC in points (20), points per game (1.82), and goals per game (0.73), and ranks second in total goals (8).  Chahbani is second in points per game (1.42) and game-winning goals (3), third in goals per game (0.55), fourth in total points (16), and fourth in total goals (6).

A formidable backfield has also held opponents to only 1.18 goals per game, with sophomore goalkeeper Carl Spence (St. Catherine, Jamaica) posting three shutouts and a .824 save percentage, which ranks third in the ECC.

After this week's action, the Mavericks will have another big match on Wednesday, October 24, at Dowling in their final ECC regular season outing.  The Golden Lions are currently ranked No. 7 in the nation, and No. 1 in the Northeast Region.
