Rennis Scores a Pair as Mercy College Men's Soccer Rolls Past Goldey-Beacom, 4-0
Interim Head Coach Nick Bell earns first career win.
DOBBS FERRY, NY - Sophomore forward Roger Rennis (Kingston, Jamaica) scored his first two goals of the season and senior forward Michael Frimpong-Manso (Accra, Ghana) tallied four points to help the Mercy College men's soccer team to its first win of the season, a 4-0 shutout of Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday. The win was the first of Interim Head Coach Nick Bell's career and improved the Mavericks to 1-0-2. Goldey-Beacom dropped to 0-7-0 on the year.
Senior midfielder Norton Carnegie (Kingston, Jamaica) put Mercy ahead in the seventh minute as he took a pass from Frimpong-Manso and placed it in the lower left corner. The Mavericks made it 2-0 in the 33rd minute when Rennis converted a pass from Carnegie.
Rennis gave Mercy a 3-0 cushion in the 65th minute when he buried a rebound off Frimpong-Manso's shot that caromed off the left post. Frimpong-Manso finished the scoring in the 69th minute on a break away touch up the middle from freshman midfielder Gianfranco Bastone (Yorktown Heights, NY).
Sophomore goalkeeper Carl Spence (St. Catherine, Jamaica) made one save to earn the shutout for Mercy. Goldey Beacom netminder Rob Garofalo stopped eight shots. The Mavericks out-shot Goldey-Beacom by a 22-7 margin.
Mercy will return to action on Saturday, September 15, at Wilmington in a non-conference match at 2:00 p.m.
