Mavericks Play to 1-1 Draw at Bloomsburg in Non-Conference Men's Soccer
BLOOMSBURG, PA - For the second straight game, the Mercy College men's soccer team played to a 1-1 double overtime draw, this one at non-conference foe Bloomsburg University, on Sunday, September 9. The Mavericks are now 0-0-2 on the year, while Bloomsburg stands at 0-5-1.
Mercy got on the scoreboard early as senior Michael Frimpong-Manso (Accra, Ghana) scored his second goal of the season on an assist from freshman Gianfranco Bastone (Yorktown Heights, NY) in the fifth minute.
The Huskies responded in the 10th minute on a Tom Kovack (Croydon, PA) header off a cross from Bryan Darby (Doylestown, PA) to knot the contest at 1-1.
Bloomsburg out-shot Mercy 13-2 in the second half and 2-1 in the extra frames, but neither team was able to break the tie.
Sophomore goalkeeper Carl Spence (St. Catherine, Jamaica) made seven saves on the day for the Mavericks, including five in the second half. Jon Keller (Clarks Summit, PA) made four stops for Bloomsburg.
Mercy will return to action on Wednesday, September 12, with a non-conference tilt at home versus Goldey Beacom beginning at 3:30 p.m.
