Mercy College Men's Soccer Tabbed for Sixth in ECC Preseason Poll

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. - The Mercy College men's soccer team has been picked to finish sixth in the 2007 East Coast Conference (ECC) standings, according to a poll voted on by the league's head coaches.  Defending NCAA Division II National Champion and ECC champion, Dowling College, has been selected to win the league crown in 2007. NYIT and the University of Bridgeport are picked to finish second and third, respectively.  2006 NCAA Tournament team, C.W. Post is the coaches' pick for fourth place and New Haven is tabbed for fifth.

Mercy finished the 2006 season in fifth place with a 6-5-3 overall record and a 3-2-3 league mark.  Mercy finished just short of a conference tournament berth, but closed out the year by going 2-0-2 over the final four games, including a 0-0 tie with C.W. Post.

First year Interim Head Coach Nick Bell will return 14 letter winners from last year's squad, including seven starters. The Mavericks are slated to open the 2007 campaign on Thursday, September 6, versus Caldwell at home with a 1:00 p.m. kick-off.  The first ECC contest will be on Wednesday, September 26, at New Haven, beginning at 4:00 p.m.

The 2007 ECC Men's Soccer Tournament will take place on October 31, and November 3.
