Christian Gonzalez Resigns as Head Coach of Mercy College Men's Soccer
DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. - Mercy College Director of Athletics Dr. Kevin T. McGinniss announced that Christian Gonzalez has resigned his position of head men's soccer coach to pursue other opportunities. A search for his replacement is underway.
"I want to thank the Mercy College community for the opportunity to coach exceptional student-athletes," said Gonzalez. "I wish the best to the Mercy soccer program as they move forward, and they will always be in my thoughts."
Gonzalez guided the program for four seasons (2003-06), posting an overall record of 31-28-7 (.523), including an 18-13-3 (.574) mark in conference play. He led Mercy to a pair of conference tournament appearances (2004 and 2005), capturing a league title (then the New York Collegiate Athletic Conference) in 2004.
"On behalf of the entire athletics department I would like to thank Chris for dedicating four successful seasons to Mercy College and our student-athletes," said McGinniss. "I wish him well in all of his future endeavors."
Mercy finished the 2006 season at 6-5-3 overall and 3-2-3 in East Coast Conference (ECC) play. The Mavericks will return 14 players from last year's squad, including seven starters.
