Mercy's Norton Carnegie Named to Daktronics, Inc. Division II All-Northeast Region Second Team

DOBBS FERRY, NY - Mercy College's  Norton Carnegie (Kingston, Jamaica) has been named to the inaugural Daktronics, Inc. Division II Men's Soccer All-Northeast Region Second Team. A total of 24 student-athletes were recognized on the two teams, announced on Tuesday.

Carnegie, a junior defender, was a two-time ECC Defensive Player of the Week selection, and earned a spot on the All-East Coast Conference (ECC) First Team.  He was a key part of a Mercy defense that posted three shutouts and allowed just over one goal per game. He helped hold down a potent Dowling offense in a slim 1-0 defeat, and shut down top scoring threat Gerald Jones of St. Thomas Aquinas as Mercy registered a 1-0 shutout in ECC play.

Carnegie also chipped in on offense, scoring the game-tying goal with only 3:18 to play in regulation, and helped hold Molloy without a shot in either extra period in the Flyers' 2-1 double-overtime road win.

Mercy finished the year with a 6-5-3 overall record and a 3-2-3 mark in East Coast Conference (ECC) play, good for fifth place in the league standings.  The Flyers closed out the year by going 2-0-2 in their last four outings, playing to a scoreless tie with C.W. Post, ranked No. 20 in the nation at the time, in their season finale on Monday, October 23.

Head Coach Chris Gonzalez will return 13 letterwinners from this year's squad in 2007, including nine starters.
