Holy Family Defeats Mercy College Men's Soccer 4-2

            DOBBS FERRY, NY - The Mercy College men's soccer team fell in a wild non-conference game, 4-2, at the hands of visiting Holy Family University on Wednesday afternoon. Mercy is now 4-5-1 on the year, while Holy Family improved to 9-6-1.

            With the second half played through a driving rain, the contest saw the two teams combine for 28 shots, 13 corner kicks, 11 saves and 32 fouls.

            Mercy took an early 1-0 lead, striking in the eighth minute. Freshman midfielder Nizhar Chahbani (Menzel Bourguiba, Tunisia) curled a corner kick in front of the Holy Family net and sophomore forward Quaison Carter (Teaneck, NJ) buried a header in the right side.

            Holy Family would get on the scoreboard in the 29^th minute, connecting on their own corner kick from Sean Hordijenko (Philadelphia, PA) to Matt Stricker (Philadelphia, PA).  Just over one minute later, Hordijenko set up the go ahead goal, finding Matt Kocher (Philadelphia, PA), who one-timed a low cross that gave Holy Family a 2-1 edge. The Tigers added another goal less than one minute before halftime as Steve Kientzy (Philadelphia, PA) fed David Laurich (Warminster, PA) about five yards out after a loose corner kick.

            The score remained 3-1 until the 82-minute mark, when Laurich fired a low cross that skipped past two Mercy defenders and to the feet of Hordijenko, who connected for another Holy Family goal.  Mercy got one back in the 84^th minute as Chahbani's free kick from near midfield found junior Kabirou Alassani (Bronx, NY) waiting to connect in the lower left corner, but Holy Family closed out the 4-2 decision.

            Freshman goalkeeper Carl Spence (St. Catherine, Jamaica) made eight saves for Mercy, while Patrick Becker (Philadelphia, PA) posted three stops for Holy Family.  The Tigers held a 15-13 edge in shots.

            Mercy returns to action on Saturday, October 14, at home versus ECC opponent NYIT at Noon.
