Carter, Carnegie Rally Mercy Men's Soccer Past Molloy,
2-1 in Double Overtime

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY - Sophomore forward Quaison Carter (Teaneck, NJ) scored in the second overtime period to lift the Mercy College men's soccer team to a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over host Molloy on Wednesday, September 27.  Mercy, currently ranked No. 7 in the Northeast region, improved to 4-2-0 overall and 2-0-0 in East Coast Conference (ECC) play.  Molloy dropped to 4-4-2 overall and 1-2-0 in league action.

Molloy struck first as William Bell (Valley Stream, NY) converted a penalty kick in the 26th minute. The Lions held the 1-0 lead for the next 60 minutes of the contest, but with just 3:18 to go in regulation, Mercy's Norton Carnegie (Kingston, Jamaica) tied it up with his first goal of the season.

Neither team could find the net in the first overtime, but five minutes into the second extra frame Carter snapped a header into the center of the goal after Nizar Chahbani's (Menzel Bourguiba, Tunisia) initial shot was stopped by Molloy goalkeeper Ettore Morelli (Bellmore, NY).

Freshman goalkeeper Carl Spence (St. Catherine, Jamaica) played the final 61 minutes for Mercy, making two stops. Senior Nicholas Evans (Kingston, Jamaica) made three saves in the start.

"We played with so much heart today," said head coach Chris Gonzalez.  "We believed the whole game that we would come back and we pulled it out. Carl (Spence) did and awesome job in goal and all of our backs had a great performance.  We moved Norton up from the back to the midfield and he changed the game."

Mercy is back in action again on Saturday, September 30, at home versus ECC foe Dowling, currently ranked No. 4 in the nation. Kick-off is set for noon.
