Mercy Men's Soccer Jumps to No. 7 in NSCAA
Northeast Regional Poll
DOBBS FERRY, NY - The Mercy College men's soccer team has moved up to No. 7 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Northeast Regional Poll, jumping two spots from No. 9 last week.
Mercy (3-2-0, 1-0-0 ECC) defeated league foe St. Thomas Aquinas College, 1-0, in its East Coast Conference (ECC) opener last Tuesday. Senior defender Norton Carnegie (Kingston, Jamaica) earned ECC Defensive Player of the Week honors as he anchored a defense that shut down top scoring threat Gerald Jones in the shutout.
Senior midfielder Alexandre Augusto (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) continues to lead the squad with seven points on three goals and one assist. Sophomore forward Michael Frimpong-Manso (Accra, Ghana) has also scored three goals, including the deciding tally at St. Thomas Aquinas.
Defensively the Flyers have posted a combined goals against average of 1.18. Senior Nicholas Evans (Kingston, Jamaica) has seen the majority of action between the posts, registering a 1.00 GAA, while freshman Carl Spence (St. Catherine, Jamaica) has allowed only one goal in his first 141:27, for a 0.64 GAA.
Mercy will return to action on Wednesday, September 27, at Molloy, currently ranked No. 9 in the Northeast Region.
