Mercy Men's Soccer Picked to Finish Fifth in 2006

DOBBS FERRY, NY - The Mercy College men's soccer team has been picked to finish fifth in the 2006 East Coast Conference (ECC) standings, according to a poll voted on by the league's head coaches.  Defending regular season champion Dowling was tabbed to repeat.

The Flyers finished the 2005 season with an 8-6-2 overall record and qualified for the conference tournament with a 4-4-0 league mark.  Mercy tied Dowling 0-0, in the quarterfinals, but fell in the penalty kick round 8-7.

Head coach Chris Gonzalez returns 11 letter winners from last year's squad, including six starters. Mercy is off to a 1-1 start to the 2006 season, winning its last outing, a 2-1 triumph over the University of D.C.  The Flyers return to action on Wednesday, September 6, when they take on Wilmington in their home opener at 3:30 p.m.

The 2006 ECC Men's Soccer Tournament will take place on October 25, and October 27.
