Box Score

WEST CHESTER, PA - Sophomore forward Michael Frimpong-Manso (Accra, Ghana) scored both goals to lead the Mercy College men's soccer team to a 2-1 triumph over the University of the District of Columbia on Saturday afternoon.  The Flyers improved to 1-1 with their first victory of the season, while the Firebirds dropped to 0-2 on the year.

Frimpong-Manso broke a scoreless tie in the 24th minute as he converted a feed from senior midfielder Alexandre Augusto (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). The Firebirds answered with a goal from Omar Ibrahim to knot the contest at 1-1 in the 31st minute.

Mercy got what would be the game-winner in the 44th minute when Frimpong-Manso netted his second strike of the game on an assist by sophomore forward Quaison Carter (Teaneck, NJ). Mercy's defense held from there as Nicholas Evans (Kingston, Jamaica) made two saves in the second frame to finish with four in the contest.

"We played a very good game today," said head coach Christian Gonzalez. "We came out aggressive and intense from the start to get the win."

Mercy will be back in action again on Tuesday, August 29, with another non-conference game at Nyack College.
