Mercy Men's Soccer Falls in Opener 4-2, at West Chester

        WEST CHESTER, PA - Junior forward Kevin Gray (Kingston, Jamaica) and senior midfielder Alexandre Augusto (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) each scored first half goals, but the Mercy College men's soccer team fell in its opener at West Chester University by a score of 4-2.

         Gray got the Flyers on the scoreboard first, tallying his goal on a scramble in the box after a cross in the 13th minute. The Golden Rams came right back to knot the score at 1-1 on an unassisted goal by Mike Pryor in the 16th minute.

         Augusto put Mercy back ahead 2-1 on an unassisted goal of his own in the 33rd minute, but West Chester tied the contest again on a strike by Tim Fry with 3:41 left in the first half.  The Golden Rams regained the edge at 3-2 in the 57th minute as Bill Harris converted a rebound. The Flyers had some chances to even the score, but could not convert and West Chester added a late goal by Frank DeMas with 16 seconds to go.

         Allen Smith (Brooklyn, NY) made three saves in the first half for Mercy and Nicholas Evans (Kingston, Jamaica) stopped two in the second. Todd Deiter recorded a pair of saves for West Chester.

         Mercy returns to action on Saturday, August 26, taking on the University of D.C. at 1:00 p.m.
