Mercy Men's Lacrosse Team's Man-Down Defense Recognized as Top in NCAA

The Mercy College men's lacrosse team's man-down defense has been recognized by the NCAA as the nation's best for the 2011 season. The Mavericks allowed just 7 goals in 68 man-down situations this season, a percentage of .103. This marks the first time that the Mavericks have finished the season as the national leader in a statistical category.

“We’re very proud of this impressive statistic,” said Coach Steve Manitta. “Stopping team’s best 6 offensive players with a man in the box is always such an emotional lift. It shows the true fortitude of the players on this team.”

The team recently completed its second season in school history, with a record of 11-3, including a 7-3 mark in the highly competitive East Coast Conference (ECC). The Mavericks ended the 2011 campaign #7 in the nation.
