Spinelli and DiCarlo Earn ECC Men's Lacrosse Accolades
Honors continue to pour in for the Mercy College men's lacrosse team. This time, the East Coast Conference named junior attack Sal Spinelli the Player of the Week and sophomore T. J. DiCarlo the Goalkeeper of the Week. The awards cover the week ending March 6, 2011.
During the week, the now #10 Mavericks (3-0; 2-0 ECC) defeated then #7 NYIT, 16-11, and Chestnut Hill College, 13-3.
Spinelli, a transfer from Suffolk C.C. who hails from East Islip, N.Y., scored seven goals on the week. Against NYIT, he scored back-to-back goals in the second half, including the eventual game-winner. At CHC, he had two goals in the second quarter, and two more in the fourth.
DiCarlo, a sophomore from Farmingdale, N.Y., was brilliant in goal,
making 21 saves on the week. Against Tech, he made six of his 14 saves in the fourth quarter, including three from point-blank range in a span of about five seconds. At CHC, he made seven stops.
This is the second time in as many weeks that DiCarlo was named the Goalkeeper of the Week.
Earlier today, Mercy was ranked the #10 team in Division II in the USILA Coaches Poll. Additionally, LaxPower.com has Mercy as the #9 team in its Power Rankings.
This week, Mercy has a pair of home games against American International on Friday and Molloy on Sunday.
