Mercy College Men’s Lacrosse Announces First Recruiting Class

Maverick Lacrosse.

32 men from New York and New Jersey round out the first-ever class of Maverick lacrosse players.

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. – Mercy College men’s lacrosse head coach Steve Manitta announced the commitments of 32 recruits to attend Mercy College and play men’s lacrosse beginning with the 2009-10 academic year. The talented group of newcomers will make up the first team in program history.

“I cannot be more pleased with our program's first recruiting class,” said Manitta. “These players provide skill, size, speed and athleticism in this all-important season. Several student-athletes will make their names known in one of the most difficult of lacrosse conferences in the nation. I am confident that these young men will be the cornerstones of the Maverick lacrosse family as we make our lofty goals a reality.”

Mercy College announced the addition of men’s and women’s lacrosse to its menu of NCAA Division II sports offerings in the fall of 2008. Manitta was tabbed as the program’s first head coach and Jordan Levine, a former All-American at Albany and current Major League Lacrosse (MLL) All-Star, was hired as the program’s first assistant coach. The duo has concentrated efforts on recruiting for the inaugural campaign in which the Mavericks will compete in the East Coast Conference (ECC).
