TJ DiCarlo Named ECC’s Rookie of the Week in Men’s Lacrosse

Mercy College men’s lacrosse student-athlete T.J. DiCarlo (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) was named the East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week today. The award covers games that were played in the week that ended on May 2.

DiCarlo, a freshman goalie, was stellar in leading the Mavericks to a 1-1 week. Mercy beat St. Anselm, 10-9, in overtime, before losing at Seton Hill University 18-7.

At St. A’s, DiCarlo made several one-on-one saves to keep the game close. In the final 15 minutes of regulation, St. A’s managed 16 shots, with DiCarlo coming up big several times. In that fourth quarter, he managed 12 of his 27 saves. Against SHU, he made 12 saves while facing 47 shots.

For the week, he made 39 saves, stopping 59.1 percent of all shots that came on goal.

“This is nothing new for him,” said first-year head coach Steve Manitta. “This is exactly what we have known all along. He is a cornerstone of this program.”

DiCarlo is the first men’s lacrosse player to be honored by the ECC this season with a weekly award.

Mercy concludes the inaugural season of competition this week, hosting Dominican on Wednesday, and Lake Erie on Saturday.
