Men’s Lacrosse Picked Ninth in ECC in Inaugural Season

Central Islip, NY- The East Coast Conference has released its preseason men’s lacrosse poll for the 2010 season, and the Mercy Mavericks have been predicted to finish ninth in the eleven team league. The poll was generated by voting of the coaches in the conference.

2009 NCAA Division II National Champion C.W. Post Pioneers have been tabbed the men's lacrosse preseason favorite for the 2010 season. Mercyhurst follows up in the second spot, and rounding out the top three are the Bears of NYIT.

The 2010 Preseason Offensive Player of the Year has been awarded to senior John McClure from Dowling College. Two-time All-American Bryan Leonard has been named as the 2010 Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.

The Mavericks are one of three teams to compete in its first season in 2010. The remaining brand new programs are Chestnut Hill (Pa.) College and Lake Erie (Pa.) College. Wheeling Jesuit (W.V.) and Seton Hill (Pa.) University are new to the ECC this year.

Mercy begins its inaugural campaign on Sunday, February 28, at American International in Springfield, Mass. The first home game in program history will be on Wednesday, March 3, against local rival Pace University. That game will be played at Yorktown High School at 4:00 p.m.
