Hickey Posts Team-High 17 Points and Robinson Secures Double-Double as Men's Basketball Plays at LIU Post

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Feb. 8, 2017) – Despite a team-high 17 points from graduate student Ryan Hickey (Smithtown, N.Y./Dowling College) and a double-double from senior William Robinson (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Nyack College), the Mercy College men's basketball team dropped an 81-55 decision to LIU Post in ECC action on Wednesday night.

The Mavericks (2-21, 0-14 ECC) remain winless in ECC play, while the Pioneers (7-16, 6-7 ECC) have won two games in a row.

Hickey added five rebounds and three assists, while Robinson notched his seventh double-double of the year with 14 points and ten rebounds. Senior Raphael Jennings (Washington, D.C./ASA College) ended the night with nine points and three assists.

LIU Post was led by Greg Dotson who posted a double-double with a game-high 18 points and 15 rebounds.

The Pioneers opened up the contest with the first eight points and held a 13-3 lead with 16:22 remaining in the first half. Hickey followed with a three to make it a seven-point game, 13-6, but the hosts followed with a 31-13 run to take their largest lead of the half, 44-19, with 2:23 left before halftime. LIU Post headed into halftime with a 45-21 lead after shooting 59.3 percent in the opening half with ten made threes.

Mercy began the second half on a 14-4 run to cut the deficit to 14, 49-35, with 14 minutes left, forcing a LIU Post timeout. Out of the timeout, the Pioneers went on an 8-1 run to increase the lead back to 21, 57-36, with 11:28 remaining.

A Matt Morgan (White Plains, N.Y./Nyack College) layup at the 5:19 mark made it 68-52 with 5:19 remaining. However, the hosts concluded the game on a 13-3 run to secure the victory.

The Mavericks shot a season-low 31.3 percent (20-of-64) from the floor, 28.6 percent (6-of-21) from long distance and 56.3 percent (9-of-16) from the foul line. LIU Post shot 49.2 percent (29-of-59) from the field, 50.0 percent (15-of-30) from downtown and 53.3 percent (8-of-15) from the charity stripe. The Pioneers held a 45-37 edge on the glass and a 32-9 advantage in bench points.
